Issue #2, June 2005

Editorial

Ladies and gentlemen, folks, and fellow slackers:

We are glad to present the second issue of The Slack World. This time around, The Slack World looks bigger, and fatter, filled to the brim with knowledgable posts from alt.os.linux.slackware (AOLS) and (hopefully) insightful articles. But, still, the table of contents speaks for itself.

We are pleased to say that we now have our very own mailing list. It is aimed solely at notifying its subscribers of new, future releases of the magazine—making it a bit easier for everyone to keep in touch with The Slack World.

A few new sections have been introduced in this issue. First and foremost, we have what we've decided to call the "Persona Grata" (*) section. There are many knowledgeable people who post to AOLS, and we have decided to try to interview one of them in each issue starting from now. A person who kindly agreed to open the series is Floyd L. Davidson, well known to AOLS regulars. Those who by some strange reason don't know Floyd L. Davidson yet will get the point as soon as they read the interview.

Another section, called Slack Classes, features a mini-HOWTO. In every future issues, like this one, we will try to publish a tutorial or a mini-HOWTO written either by the AOLS regulars, contributors or the editors.

As before, we encourage experienced GNU/Linux users in general, and Slackware Linux users in particular, to share their knowledge with the community by submitting articles to be published on The Slack World. Let's make the world better!

Being inspired by the ``Update to latest 2.6.x kernel HOWTO'' by Grant Coady, and recent threads on the same topic in AOLS, we have decided to work on preparing an issue devoted mostly to problems with compiling and upgrading a 2.6.x kernel. Therefore, materials on the subject are especially encouraged.

We hope you will enjoy the issue. Your ideas, suggestions, bug reports, et cetera are always most welcome! Until next month, have a good read!
