Further reading on compiling a custom kernel

  1. README at the root of the kernel source tree
  2. Kernel Rebuild Guide by Kwan Lowe. Probably the best guide available in the Net before Grant Coady wrote his guide for Issue #3 of The Slack World. Covers both 2.4 and 2.6 series kernels.
  3. A part of Chapter 7 of ``Running Linux'', 4th edition, by Matt Welsh et al. A bit dated but well written.
  4. HowTo Upgrade to the 2.6 Kernel at KernelTrap
  5. HowTo Upgrade 2.6 with Patches at KernelTrap
  6. Compiling the Linux Kernel by R. Krishnakumar
  7. KernelNewbies.org
  8. Jem's Guide: ``How to compile and install a new Linux kernel.'' A short but very clear writeup (2.4 kernels only).
  9. Kernel-related stuff at linuxmafia.com
  10. Simple kernel make help by Richard Adams. An old but very clearly written text.
