+KDE-5_19.02 is meant to be installed on top of Slackware -current.
It will *replace* any version of KDE 4 you might have installed!
The Plasma 5 Desktop has gotten rid of its Qt4 legacy. Since the release of
Applications 17.12 there's nothing left which is based on kdelibs4.
What is the NEWS in this batch of updates:
-- Some note-worthy changes in the 'deps' section: there's a new dependency
- to 'OpenAL': 'SDL_sound'. And I finally decided to add freecell-solver
- in order to be able to compile the KDE 'kpat' package.
- The 'freecell-solver' package needs 'python3-random2', 'perl-path-tiny'
- and 'perl-template-toolkit' to compile so these were also added as packages.
- I added 'drumstick' so that I could compile the KDE 'minuet' package.
- And finally, I upgraded 'phonon' and 'phonon-vlc' and rebuilt
- 'phonon-gstreamer'.
-- Frameworks 5.54.0 is an incremental stability release, see:
-- Plasma 5.14.5 is an incremental upgrade in the Plasma Desktop 5.14
- release cycle, bringing stability and performance fixes.
- See https://www.kde.org/announcements/plasma-5.14.5.php
- You may want to read about all the new features in Plasma 5.14 here:
-- Applications 18.12.1 is the first stability and bugfix update for the 18.12
- cycle. I did not package 18.12.0 so this is actually the first opportunity
- to test the latest KDE Applications on Slackware.
- See https://www.kde.org/announcements/announce-applications-18.12.1.php and
+- This month, Qt 5.12.1 landed in the "deps" section of my ktown repository.
+ It is accompanied by the latest 'libxkbcommon', 'sip' and 'PyQt5' releases.
+ The 'qt5' update also mandated a recompile of the 'qt5-webkit' package.
+ Unfortunately I am not able to compile the latest (and final) PyQt 4.x
+ release, and the same goes for the Qt4 support in QScintilla.
+ So I stuck with Slackware's 'PyQt' and dropped Qt4 support from 'QScintilla'.
+ Other news? I added a base for speech support in KDE Plasma (and Slackware)
+ with the "deps" packages 'pcaudiolib', 'espeak-ng', 'pyxdg', 'dotconf',
+ 'flite', 'speech-dispatcher' and 'qt5-speech' (that's the compile order).
+ The packages that will pick up speech support are 'kanagram', 'kmouth',
+ 'knights' (applications) 'kpimtextedit', 'kdepim-runtime' (kdepim)
+ 'ktp-text-ui' (telepathy) and 'knotifications', 'ktextwidgets' (frameworks).
+ And finally, I added 'libsass' and 'sassc' packages as new dependencies for
+ 'breeze-gtk'.
+- Frameworks 5.55.0 is an incremental stability release, see:
+- Plasma 5.15.0 is the first installment in the Plasma Desktop 5.15 release
+ cycle, with a focus on User Interface and User Experience improvements.
+ Also, integration with 3rd party graphics toolkits - think of GTK but also
+ Firefox - has improved significantly.
+ See https://www.kde.org/announcements/plasma-5.15.0.php
+- Applications 18.12.2 is another stability and bugfix update for the 18.12
+ cycle.
+ See https://www.kde.org/announcements/announce-applications-18.12.2.php and
if you want more detail about the 18.12 cycle you should also read
https://www.kde.org/announcements/announce-applications-18.12.0.php .
- And since I added the required dependencies, I could now compile two packages
- in Applications: 'kpat' and 'minuet'.
- Added to Applications 18.12 are: 'knights' (chess game) and
- 'kirigami-gallery' (example application programmed in kirigami).
-- In plasma-extra I have upgraded 'wacomtablet'.
-- In applications-extra I have upgraded 'kdevelop', 'kdev-php', 'kdev-python'
- 'kstars' and 'okteta'.
+- In applications-extra I have upgraded 'kmymoney' and recompiled 'krita'
+ for better compatibility wih Qt 5.12.

Since KDE 5 aka Plasma 5 is built on Qt5 (KDE 4 uses Qt4 as its base)
you'll find many Qt5 related packages. Also, in order for Qt4 and GTK based
applications to dock into the Plasma 5 system tray, more dependencies were
needed. So, apart from updates to regular Slackware packages and the
new telepathy support packages (see below), these are the new ones:

- cryfs, ddcutil, dvdauthor, freecell-solver, frei0r-plugins, grantlee-qt4,

Technically that makes them redundant in the above listing, however I still
provide older Plasma5 packages for Slackware 14.2 so I left them in.
