Slack Hearts

There are a lot of interesting persons among slackers. We recommend that every new Slackware user subscribes to or reads archives of alt.os.linux.slackware news group and studies posts by Henrik Carlqvist, Grant Coady, Floyd L. Davidson, Martijn Dekker, Eric Hameleers, Loki Harfagr, Eef Hartman, D Herring, Alan Hicks, Helmut Hullen, Keith Keller, Joost Kremers, Manuel Otto, Thomas Overgaard, Lew Pitcher, Sylvain Robitaille, Kees Theunissen, Robby Workman and other Slackware gurus.

Some Slackers maintain their web sites. Below, we provide links to their sites along with brief comments. The list is incomplete and we encourage you to send us [*] your suggestions, additions, as well as corrections.

Sébastien Boillod

Seb Boillod is a "happy linux user (since October 2002)" and a "command-line junky" living in France. He is the author of Spack, formerly a package manager designed for Slackware and its derivates, but already a standalone packaging toolkit, using its own CPIO-based package format but aiming to keep a total compatibility with Slackware. He is also the author of GUST, a tagfile generator.

Marco Bonetti

Marco Bonetti aka sid77 is a developer of Slackintosh, a port of Slackware to Mac, a member of the Slackware Linux Project Italia, and a Tor researcher. Find more here :-)

Grant Coady

Grant Coady maintains a number of Linux- and network-related projects, sf4sf, netdraw and cc2ip to mention a few.

One of them called "junkview" is a suite of awk and bash scripts to analyse iptables firewall log files and summarise data in a plain text presentation. It has been briefly discussed here. One can also find scripts and recommendations related to the Linux kernel on the site. This is of no wonder since Grant Coady is the author of "A 2.4.x Kernel Update and Compilation Guide".

BTW, Grant Coady is the only person acknowledged by Willy Tarreau, the maintainer of the Hotfix branch of Linux kernel and the current maintainer of the main line 2.4 kernel. Those lucky of you can sometimes find photographs made by Grant during his journeys around Australia.

Floyd L. Davidson

Have you ever seen the "Midnight Sun"? In case the answer is "no", you should definitely take a chance provided the Ambassador of Slackware in Alaska. Don't finish your journey there but also read an interview with Floyd L. Davidson published in the second issue of The Slack World.

Martijn Dekker

Martijn maintains a rich collection of perfect SlackBuild scripts. One who checks an upper level directory, finds a beautiful and interesting world of InLv.

Eric Hameleers (Alien BOB)

Eric is one of the Slackware core team members. He also maintains a repository of non-official Slackware packages, is one of the admins of the SlackBuilds.org website, and writes in-depth documentation for Slackware on his own dokuwiki. Besides this, Eric manages to find time for an interesting blog. Want to know about Eric from Eric himself? Go read Meet the Linux Family: Eric Hameleers (published on February 10, 2010).

Loki Harfagr

Loki Harfagr maintains one of the most artistically looking sites in the Net (I mean, it's cool! Blame me for my poor English - MZ), originally in French but also in English. Mortal slackers can benefit from studying the HTML version of the AOLS FAQ. Also, make sure you have read Loki's Slack Rock Band in a Few Easy Steps!

Joost Kremers

Joost Kremers is a linguist but also an experienced user of Slackware, the author of multiple interesting, educative and… artistic posts on AOLS, check, e.g., his Concise And Practical Tutorial On How To Read And Interpret The Output Gleaned From The `Make' Command, Wherein Can Be Found For The Benefit Of The Reader Two Magical Hints Regarding The Solution Of Never-Before Encountered Problems.

Douglas D. Mayne

Douglas D. Mayne is the author of startup environments for booting GNU/Linux on a live CD/DVD and on an encrypted root filesystem, which he created back in the times of Slackware 10.2. He also maintains an interesting list of links to newspapers, radio stations, scientific and (surprise!) Linux-related resources.

Jean-Pierre Menicucci

Jean-Pierre Menicucci has been a system engineer many years ago, then a windows developer. Currently, he is a happy manager of an international Team of Service Managers working for an Internet provider in France. He doesn't consider himself being a Slackware player but this didn't stop him from creating a very interesting site dedicated to installing an Internet Server on Slackware Linux.

Tom Newsom

Tom Newsom (AKA Jeepster) has been a Slackware user since 1993. Currently he uses Bluewhite64 which is a 64bit derivative of Slackware. He works from home as a remote administrator and specialises in Slackware administration. He also maintains a nice site, full of interesting information, including Unofficial History of Slackware releases, miscellaneous tips and ideas.

Lew Pitcher

Lew Picher is probably one of the most experienced Slackware users who doesn't hesitate to share his knowledge on AOLS as well as on the Web. His site contains links to his favourite news resources and a list of his (including those published by The Slack World :-)

Sylvain Robitaille

Sylvain Robitaille is an AOLS regular, the author of numerous interesting and helpful posts but also a Systems and Network analyst. On his web page called The Rock Garden, one can find interesting reading on computer security, useful software, including sophisticated one-liners as well as a number of nice pics, which do not (directly) relate to UNIX/Linux.

Ah, Sylvain also finds time to maintain the Alt.OS.Linux.Slackware FAQ. Check it immediately if you haven't done this yet.

Michiel has kindly written a review of Slackware-12.0 for us.

Robby Workman

Robby Workman maintains a rich collection of Slackware packages together with build scripts. He is one of the authors of SlackWiki, a must-read for all Slackware novices but not only, and one of the chief maintainers of SlackBuilds.org.

Robby is also a Nerd God with the score of 99! (There's no problem to get 98 providing you honestly tell the test about dirty dishes around your work place, but I honestly have no idea how to earn 99! :-) -- MZ)
